Was it predictably unpredictable or unpredictably predictable? That was the question that Allison and I came up with after all of us (Kristie & Kelly too) saw this movie. A quick summary: it was really good. Ocean's 11 was so strong and then Ocean's 12 was so weak that we almost blew this one off until Netflix time. It actually came and went in the first run theaters without my attention that when Kristie suggested we see it at the local 2nd run bargain house, I was shocked...I had totally forgotten about it.But back to the original question: it was predicably unpredictable because it had the double switches and tricks that we loved in the first. You get mistakes that are actually the plan, and an all around good time. But it was also unpredictably predictable because you knew they were going to end up with all the money, but things didn't go as machine-like as the first one...these guys are human afterall.
I read somewhere that it's like Ocean's 12 never really happened...and that's how I'd like to remember it. In that one they did "make up" with Terry Benedict, and that's good because they need him and his money in this one. Other than that, let's just forget that disaster and get on with the fun. They've returned to Las Vegas and with that return is a good script.
The acting was...the acting. All of these guys are actually good actors and they all seemed at ease. But let's face it: this thing is an ensemble so you can't say that George Clooney dominated or that Matt Damon got shafted...they all performed admirably and that's want you want. It makes you smile and wonder "how are they going to do that?" and "what are they doing that for?". But in the end, everything get's wrapped up neatly in a bow and while I could've lived waiting to see this on DVD in the comfort of the living room, it wasn't a bad deal at the $3.50 movie theater.
