What I listened to this morning...

A lot of these cool blogs have "what I'm listening to now" on them. I'm not nearly that cool and I don't listen to anything while I'm working. It's kind of a thing of mine. But I thought I'd mention (for anyone who could possibly care) what I listened to on the way from basketball practice this morning. My normal commute is about 20 minutes but that's at 6:30AM. When we have hoops practice, I don't get out of the school until around 8:00, so the traffic is a nightmare. For some reason I decided to drive our car that's for sale (1989 Landcruiser, awesome shape) and it has the 6 disk player that I've always dug. So I threw in a couple of disks and got to listen to them. They were:
  • Joe Jackson Live 1980-1986
  • J. Geils Band House Party LIVE
A quick thought on both. If you think of Joe Jackson as this crooner/piano player, you're right. But if you don't think of him as a jammin' rock musician, you're wrong. This live album captures him and his band, positively jammmmmmmin' some great songs. My favorite is I'm the Man and Sunday Papers. Plus he offers 3(that's right 3) different versions of Is She Really Going Out With Him and a great version of Slow Song. We saw him at Red Rocks when he toured with a big band in support of Heart and Soul and it was a tremendous show.

As for J. Geils Band...they are da bomb. The first 7 or so tracks of CD 2 are a bunch of live songs put together in a mini concert. They absolutely shred... I remember seeing these guys in concert in Boulder and it was a great show and this set captures that power and fun. I can't wait to go home to listen to them all again.

A teacher's credentials...

Kristie told me this funny story..... The School has been blessed for years with a teacher who has dutifully taught yearbook class to the Senior High students. She abruptly resigned a couple of weeks ago, for personal reasons and nothing to do with the School or the job per se. In a mad scramble, the principal scrounged up a "suitable" replacement. This replacement was described as "a mom". Fast forward to yesterday. Kristie was doing new employee orientation and this new hire was present. Kristie did emphasize this person seems to be a terrific individual and an all around nice lady. When Kristie introduced herself she stated: "So you're the new yearbook teacher....nice to meet you". The new hire replied, "Thanks, do you know anything about this yearbook stuff? Because I don't..." Kelly signed up for yearbook this year...she already has Digital Photography, a questionable class and now Yearbook. Wednesday Elective Day is going t...
