My obsession with all things Google

I love Google. I admit it. For some reason, what they do simply appeals to me. Take Blogger for instance. Years ago, I looked at, probably right after the Big G acquired it. It was nice, in a total utilitarian way, but nothing special. Now I look at and love it. I dig the draft queues, since I'm literally working on about dozen entries at any one time. None of the "republish" issues that I didn't like the last time. Plays nice with GMail and Google Apps. Auto saving. Raw HTML editing. Image hosting made easy. Just plain old nice.

I do feel that Google has a few ugly stepchildren in their family mind you. Google Notebook is still just weird. They could've nailed the thing and I think their latest incarnation is actually less useful. I just want to be able to quickly add links and a short description (ala del.icio.us) and instead it's this gummy, messy, steaming pile of... And Google Reader is no better. I'm a big Newsgator fan (the online version) and when GReader came out, I dove in. It's Google, it's got to be good. It just didn't work the way I wanted my feed aggregator to work. The scrolling paging thing just got in the way. I'm convinced that I marked stuff as read when I hadn't read them...or at least that's the way it felt. Now that Newsgator is trying out their new and improved version, we'll see. Some of it seems less good...might be time to try GReader out again.

I'm also totally absorbed with GWT...and that's going to get it's own label. I expect to have a lot to say about it....

A teacher's credentials...

Kristie told me this funny story..... The School has been blessed for years with a teacher who has dutifully taught yearbook class to the Senior High students. She abruptly resigned a couple of weeks ago, for personal reasons and nothing to do with the School or the job per se. In a mad scramble, the principal scrounged up a "suitable" replacement. This replacement was described as "a mom". Fast forward to yesterday. Kristie was doing new employee orientation and this new hire was present. Kristie did emphasize this person seems to be a terrific individual and an all around nice lady. When Kristie introduced herself she stated: "So you're the new yearbook teacher....nice to meet you". The new hire replied, "Thanks, do you know anything about this yearbook stuff? Because I don't..." Kelly signed up for yearbook this year...she already has Digital Photography, a questionable class and now Yearbook. Wednesday Elective Day is going t...
